I find it satisfyingly amusing that Dean Cain's career has gone from Clark Kent to random, not-even-cameo roles in films like this one. That probably stems from my distaste for DC Comics, and thus my distaste for Superman, a.k.a. Clark Kent, a.k.a. Dean Cain. It's even more amusing that his acting prowess fails in comparison to the predominantly young and inexperienced actors that make up the rest of the cast. The only one worth noting, though, is Masiela Lusha (Blood: The Last Vampire, The George Lopez Show). Masiela is a bombshell of beauty, passion, talent, and modesty.

She's probably one of the most interesting actresses you'll ever learn about, but probably won't see much of in the big leagues (sadly). Honestly, you're more likely to see her name on a best selling non-fictional book than on the big screen. That being said, I think it's utterly tragic that more people know who Dean Cain is than this gorgeous brain. Oh well, c'est la vie.

Carlos Ramos Jr.'s 2010 supernatural flick Kill Katie Malone is the tale of three college students that purchase a haunted box from an online auction site, and unintentionally let loose the malicious ghost trapped inside. The story, written by Mark Onspaugh, is one of simple clich, formulaically effortless but irrefutably effective. It's these kinds of stories that have become cookie cutter in horror, rearing their heads with eight out of ten scripts. And while they work like a charm, it takes a lot of other aspects to make it happen. Onspaugh made sure that all of the elements of his story worked in tandem to create an effective film script, and Ramos Jr. did a fairly decent job of making it come together on screen.

The story is simple and certainly isn't without its flaws. A ghost trapped in a box will grant your wishes if you open it and release her, but will kill a bunch of people in the process. It's been done a hundred thousand times before, and in this case the one piece of the pie that makes it unique (kinda) is also the portion that causes it's only bit of ineffectiveness. The legend of Katie Malone, the ghost, is meant to bestow upon the viewer a sense of pity, but that intention is counteracted by, well…Katie's relentless and merciless bitch-fest of murder. When a tormented ghost isn't looking for someone to relieve her of her tortured past, it's very hard to not want to lock the crazy bitch back up in a frinkin' box!

The rest of the movie was solid enough. Good, intense kills with just the right amount of gore, a cast of likeable characters, and proper pacing that leads you by the hand right 'til the shocking "duh duh DUH!" ending. I reiterate: Masiela Lusha is the best part of this movie, and I still think Dean Cain would be more effective as a waiter at Denny's.
