alt summit blogger must-haves: victoria mcginley of vmac+cheese

Meet the lovely Victoria McGinley of vmac+cheese from San Francisco! An Austin, TX native who moved to LA for college – Victoria has been in SF for over 5 years now. Here are her top 5 must-haves for the Alt Design Summit coming up on the 18th!

What is your favourite thing about your city? Honestly? I love that SF doesn't get too hot! Also, that we are such a quick drive away from wine country, mountains, you name it. It's gorgeous here.

Full-time blogger or have you got a dayjob? In a way…both! I do currently have a full time day job, however posting to my blog 5 days a week plus working on another little project (soon to be announced!) keeps me very, very busy. Let's just say I wake up early and sometimes go to bed late. It's a labor of love for sure!

Macbook Air — I am so thankful that I was gifted a laptop this Christmas. It'll make taking notes (and tweeting and blogging updates!) at Alt sooo much easier.

Business Cards — I think if I left these at home I would panic and make the pilot turn the plane around. I ordered mine from uprinting.com thanks to a recommendation from Laurie Smithwick.

J.Crew Minnies — I love these pants. You can dress them up, you can dress them down, but you'll always look polished.

Michael Kors Vail Wedges — I recently got these on super sale and am excited about bringing them to the conference. They look great with pants or with a dress, and are very comfortable!

Hot Tea — both because it'll be freezing in Salt Lake, and also, I have a feeling I'll need the caffeine to keep me going through 3 days of non-stop fun!

I first started blogging way back in 2008. When my blog first started out, I really only wrote about food, since I had recently completed culinary school in SF. I sort of stopped blogging for a lot of 2009, but in mid 2010, decided to expand the focus of the site to include style, interiors, design, food, and whatever else I loved. I've been posting every day since — there's so much to be inspired by out there! In a typical week on my blog, you might find a recipe written by me, a roundup of new shoe trends I'm loving, and my latest can't-live-without-it beauty products. I also run a weekly series every Wednesday called Behind the Scenes that give us an inside look into the lives of bloggers.

What are you looking forward to most at Alt Summit this year?

Learning and meeting! Even though I feel like I have come so far since becoming committed to my blog, I know there is so much more to learn. I am always so humbled and inspired when I talk to other bloggers. I love hearing about what works for them and what doesn't…which leads me to the networking part! In my every day life, I don't have any friends or family members who blog, so I often don't have anyone to talk to about it in person. I can't WAIT to be surrounded by talented, stylish women, who all understand exactly what it's like to be a part of this amazing community!

Any bloggers you are most excited about meeting and learning from?

To be honest, I am most excited to finally be meeting up with several fabulous women who I have come to know online over the last year and a half. Tobe from Because It's Awesome, Molly from A Piece of Toast, Chelsea from Buckets and Bunches, Amanda from {Re}cycled Consign and Design, Erin from House of Earnest, all the fantastic people I met in the Alt online seminars… I've left out so many people, but I could go on forever. There are also a couple local bloggers — Jeanne from Shop Sweet Things and Melissa from Savvy in San Francisco — whom I've had the pleasure of meeting before, but can't wait to see again.

Thanks for having me today, Kait! Just writing all this out has got me PUMPED. See you there!!! And if you guys see me at Alt, please please PLEASE come and introduce yourself! Until we meet in Salt Lake City…
